Term 6

This term, our focus will be on refining and mastering essential English grammar skills that are foundational yet often overlooked during the excitement of writing longer, more creative pieces. Children will concentrate on the correct use of homophones and the construction of simple and compound sentences. These elements are crucial for clear and effective communication, and honing these skills will enhance their overall writing proficiency. Through engaging in shorter writing tasks, such as setting descriptions, students will have the opportunity to practice and solidify these important grammar rules.

Our mathematics curriculum will focus on a variety of key concepts in geometry and measurement. Students will explore angles, shapes, and the principles of position and direction, including translation and reflection. They will gain a deeper understanding of how shapes can move and change within a space. Additionally, we will delve into the concept of volume, helping children understand how to measure the amount of space an object occupies. Through hands-on activities and practical exercises, students will develop a robust understanding of these fundamental mathematical concepts, building a strong foundation for future learning.  Additionally, we will continue to focus on rapid recall of times tables, this is vital for understanding this term.  Focusing on times tables in class and at home will allow children to recall these facts efficiently.

For Reading, the children will be focusing on core skills such as retrieval, vocabulary, and inference throughout our guided reading sessions.  There will be many opportunities for class reading, individual reading and reading for pleasure.  Please continue to encourage your child to read at home for at least 10 minutes per day.

In Geography, the children will learn about energy and sustainability and how countries all over the world are becoming greener through technological advances.

In Science, the children will explore how humans change through their lifecycle.  Building on previous knowledge and enhancing their scientific skills through enquiries.

In Art, the children will explore how perspective inspires creative works of art. We will be looking at the work of Arthus Bertrand, Fabio Giampietro and how Patrick Hughes manipulates perspective to create innovative works of art.

In Computing, children will be learning how to create a 3D model of packaging.

In PSHE children will be exploring jobs and careers.  They will consider skills and attitudes required for various career pathways.

In RE, children will be creating art based on their religious knowledge and understanding which they have developed through the year.

Throughout all our teaching and learning we will have a strong focus on Oracy and listening.  We will inspire the children to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them by developing learners who can think critically, reason together and have the vocabulary to express their knowledge and understanding.
