PSHE

The PSHE curriculum at Coxheath is from PSHE association’s curriculum builders as recommend by the Department of Education. To deliver these lessons we use a range of resources such as visits, speakers, organisations, charities and KAPOW.  

Our themes are split into three main categories: Relationships, Living in the Wider World and Health and wellbeing. The children use a spiral curriculum, children build upon their learning year by year.   

PSHE education gives children at Coxheath Primary the opportunity to learn about their and others mental health and wellbeing, and teaches some ways to manage our mental health and recognise poor mental health. PSHE education helps children and young people to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn, such as anxiety and unhealthy relationships. Children are given the opportunity to recognise different feelings and discuss when we might feel them, with the aim to reduce stigma around mental health, and allow the children to understand that everyone has mental health, and there are people who will support us when we need it.  

The social, emotional and mental health needs of all children underpins all teaching and interactions at Coxheath Primary. All staff are aware of the children’s needs, and understand the importance of children’s positive mental health and wellbeing, and its impact on their education. At Coxheath, we strive to develop and foster an inclusive and supportive environment always, and this is ensured through our PSHE education curriculum.  

Children in EYFS develop skills that form a crucial foundation for later teaching of PSHE/Relationship at KS1. Both curriculums complement each other, providing opportunities for progression throughout the school. The PSHE curriculum in EYFS is largely covered in the following areas: Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) and Understanding the World (UTW).

RSE

RSE in Coxheath is taught through the PSHE curriculum and uses the Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education Statutory guidance.
